Garden with Different Roses

Had good discussions during lunch after the forum. Tan Sri Zul asked about the definition and roles of a university. After quite a long pause I said I imagine a university like a knowledge valley. A colourful and beautiful valley with different groups of plants and flowers. Even within the same group of plants or flowers there are varieties. A group of different roses is better than just one type of red roses. Each group of plants or flowers are taken care by a team of dedicated gardeners who specialised in the specific type of plant or flower. They know the type of seeds and fertilisers needed to grow the plant or flower and at times share the tips and tricks with other teams of gardeners. Some gardeners want to produce the most beautiful flower or decorated plant. Another group may focus on the formula for a new type of fertiliser or soil while others focus on reengineering of seeds. While the former may yield quick outcomes, the latter will contribute to the sustainable growth and future of the valley. Continuously innovating by creating new and different types of plants and flowers will ensure its competitive edge against other valleys. Despite that all gardeners possess the basic skills in gardening and nurturing the plants and flowers. Every gardener wants to play a part and contribute to the beautiful valley. The design and concept of the wonderful valley is masterminded by a chief gardener. He creates the vision, share it with the teams of gardeners, listens to their feedbacks and then together via his visionary leadership translates the vision into actions. So a university should be a place where noble ideas flourish and where great minds meet, innovate and create without fear and restrictions. Selamat malam jumaat
